The 3CLJC’s Purim celebration took a lively gameshow format, hosted by Rabbi Anna Gerrard. The story of Esther was interspersed with three rounds of Purim themed games: a quiz, a shadow puppet challenge and a Just a Minute-style competition where contestants had to speak for sixty seconds without hesitation, deviation, or repetition on topics like ‘Triangle-Shaped Food’, ‘People I Would Like to Boo,’ and ‘Famous Esthers’.
The buffet table was bursting with three cornered foods – triangular filo bites, equilateral cheese morsels, hamantaschen trigons of many flavours, such as poppy and apricot, and cheesecake.
The afternoon culminated in a highly anticipated costume contest. The children’s category ended in a draw because who can choose a favourite among the Hulk, Elsa, and a Maccabee, to name a few? Among the adults, the finalists were a convincing Tevye, a stunning Cleopatra, and an elusive Where’s Wally. However, Tevye took home the prize demonstrating an exceptional level of dedication to both costume and facial hair growth.
