At our Shabbat service held at Gloucestershire Deaf Association (GDA) on Saturday 23 October, Jill Rosenheim presented a cheque for £795 to Kath Ather, a profoundly deaf staff member of the Gloucestershire Deaf Association. Kate spoke through a sign language interpreter of the particular challenges faced by deaf people during the lockdown and how this generous donation would help to support their important work, for example in training more people to use British Sign Language.
This sum was raised during the recent 3CLJC celebrations of the High Holy days, which includes Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. It is usually traditional to nominate a charity for fundraising during the High Holy days and 3CLJC were particularly grateful to the GDA for providing them with rooms and kitchen facilities for their services in recent times during the pandemic. 3CLJC have had a longstanding relationship with the GDA over several years, having enjoyed their premises for services and events in the past. The Community were anxious to express their gratitude and support for the important work done by the GDA.
