Culture Club: Passover Cook-along

Our latest Culture Club offering was a seasonal on-line event to test our baking skills.
Frances writes:
Rabbi Anna came up with the idea of a Passover Cookathon and asked Elizabeth, Lily and me to lead it. Elizabeth would be preparing and baking to my instructions. Lily would be the technical wizard for the Zoom and this would take place at Rabbi Anna’s house.
I chose three recipes that have been most popular during my life and would be perfect timing. The recipes were sent out in advance to the community, so that those interested would have all the ingredients ready on the morning.
There was a good response with people on Zoom – most would be cooking and some were taking notes to prepare for Passover.
We started with cinnamon balls, which would take 20 minutes to bake and whilst they were cooking the coconut pyramids would be prepared. It is traditional to have coconut pyramids to remind us of the Hebrew slaves building the pyramids. They took 20 minutes.
Whilst they were in the oven we made rock cakes which also took 20 minutes.
There were lots of questions, chatter, and laughter, especially when everyone displayed their results. Some were not so successful in their presentation, but I am assured that all tasted delicious.
As a community activity, it was a great success as we were asked to organise another Cookathon just before Shavuot. Next time, I will be more specific about the amount and type of utensils required.
Hoping you all enjoyed your Passover.
